Gelfand duality for compact pospaces

It is well known that the category of compact Hausdorff spaces is dually equivalent to the category of commutative C^\star-algebras. More generally, this duality can be seen as a part of a square of dualities between compact Hausdorff spaces, C^\star-algebras, compact regular frames and de Vries algebras. Three of these dualities have been extended to dualities between compact pospaces, stably compact frames and proximity frames, the fourth part of the square being lacking. We propose the category of bounded Archimedean l-semi-algebra to complete what will be the outside square of dualities and to extend to category of C^\star-algebras

Assignation et discrimination racistes : enquêtes dans le monde du travail en France

Cet article présente une synthèse de résultats de recherches sociologiques menées sur le racisme dans les entreprises et les organisations syndicales depuis quinze ans. En France, la question des discriminations dites « raciales » comme problème social et la mise en place d’un dispositif public destiné à les réprimer est relativement récente. Cependant, il y existe toujours, bien qu’il y soit généralement dénié ou ignoré, un racisme systémique, notable dans différents domaines, qui désavantage tendanciellement immigrants et descendants d’immigrants en matière d’emploi, de salaire, etc. Au sein des entreprises, les stéréotypes dévalorisants permettant de faire porter à ces derniers la responsabilité de leur situation s’ajoutent aux divers moyens d’intimidation et de réduction au silence des travailleurs minoritaires. Les organisations syndicales dénoncent le racisme patronal, mais éprouvent beaucoup de difficulté à traiter directement du racisme et des discriminations, et ce, pour diverses raisons. Si des luttes contre les traitements discriminatoires ont pu être menées, parfois avec succès, elles ont généralement été non relayées au niveau syndical national.This article presents the synthesis of results of sociological research carried out over fifteen years on racism in private enterprises and labour unions. In France, it is only recently that the question of “racial” discriminations has appeared as a social problem, and an institution set up to eradicate it. However, systemic racism exists, whereby direct and indirect discrimination accumulates in various domains, such as education and training, residential segregation, citizenship, etc., though it is generally denied or ignored. Immigrants and descendants of immigrants thus tend to be disadvantaged as regards employment and wages. In companies, demeaning stereotypes make the victims responsible for their situation, and add to various means of intimidation oriented at reducing minority workers to silence. Labour unions denounce employers’ racism, but, for various reasons, meet with a lot of difficulties dealing directly with racism and discrimination. While struggles against discriminatory treatment are waged here or there, sometimes successfully, but they are generally not taken over at the national level

Slanted canonicity of analytic inductive inequalities

We prove an algebraic canonicity theorem for normal LE-logics of arbitrary signature, in a generalized setting in which the non-lattice connectives are interpreted as operations mapping tuples of elements of the given lattice to closed or open elements of its canonical extension. Interestingly, the syntactic shape of LE-inequalities which guarantees their canonicity in this generalized setting turns out to coincide with the syntactic shape of analytic inductive inequalities, which guarantees LE-inequalities to be equivalently captured by analytic structural rules of a proper display calculus. We show that this canonicity result connects and strengthens a number of recent canonicity results in two different areas: subordination algebras, and transfer results via G\"odel-McKinsey-Tarski translations.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1603.08515, arXiv:1603.0834

De l’urbain au social : le « cycle des relations raciales »

C'est au regard de l'orientation et de l'état de la recherche sur les relations interethniques en France que l'auteur s'interroge sur les usages que l'on peut faire aujourd'hui des analyses, des concepts et des positions scientifiques des sociologues fondateurs de l'École de Chicago. En partant de la définition du " cycle des relations raciales ", formulée par Park en 1926, et des corrections qui lui ont été apportées par la suite, l'auteur discute du rôle des conflits interethniques, de celui des politiques et des institutions, du problème de la réduction du social à l'urbain et de la société à l'État national. La portée des concepts formés par et pour la recherche et celle de la distance du chercheur à son objet sont ensuite abordées dans une perspective épistémologique.From the Urban to the Social : the "Cycle of Race Relations" -- The author discusses how the analyses, concepts and scientific positions of the sociologists who founded the Chicago School can be applied to research on interethnic relations in France as they exist today. Taking as her point of departure the "cycle of race relations" formulated by Park in 1926, including subsequent modifications made to the model, she examines the role of interethnic conflict, as well as that of policies and institutions. Also discussed are the problems that are inherent in the reduction of the social to the urban, on one hand, and society to the nation-state on the other. The wider significance of the concepts developed through and for the author's study, and the issue of the distance of the researcher in relation to her subject are then discussed relation to the author's epistemological perspective.De lo urbano a lo social : el "ciclo de las relaciones entre razas" -- Observando la orientación y el estado de las investigaciones francesas sobre las relaciones interetnicas el autor se pregunta como utilizar hoy las análisis, los conceptos y las posturas científicas de los fundadores de la Escuela de Chicago. Fundándose sobre el "ciclo de las relaciones entre razas" tal que fue planteado por Park en 1926 y las correcciones que le fueron luego añadidas, el autor discute sucesivamente del papel de los conflictos interetnicos, del de las políticas y de las instituciones y al mismo tiempo el problema de la reducción de lo social o lo urbano y de la sociedad al estado nacional. Identité, origine et étiquetage

La construction identitaire, qui fonctionne par identification et fabrique de l'unité à partir de l'hétérogénéité de l'expérience individuelle et collective du social est aujourd'hui systématiquement associée à l'« origine », tout particulièrement l'« origine » ethnique ou nationale. Ce processus idéologique bien réel fait l'objet d'analyses psychologiques et sociologiques qui le redoublent sans trop chercher à l'expliquer. La recherche, en France, a ainsi plus ou moins démissionné, en admettant comme catégories pertinentes d'analyse, des catégorisations sociales ethnicisantes (la notion de « deuxième génération ») ou racisantes (les « Français de souche », les « Beurs »...). « Sens commun » et discours savants en viennent à s'alimenter l'un l'autre, au profit d'une définition ethniste ou raciste des relations interethniques ou « raciales ».This distorts the way in which identification is seen as it reflects the heterogeneouesness of the individual and the collective social experience. This ideology is the subject of psychological and sociological analyses which add to it without giving any explanation of it. In France, research has more or less given up examining these explanations and has accepted preexisting analytical categories. Ethnicizing social categories such as the notion of the « second generation » or racializing ones such as the « Français de souche » (born in France and of French origins), or the « Beur » (born in France of North African descent). « Common sense » and erudite discourse have come to feed off each other. In doing so they have reconfirmed ethnic or racist definitions of interethnic or « racial » relationships
